Membership and Lessons

Individual membership – $40 per month

Family membership – $80 per month

Youth Classes – $10 per person/ per month in addition to the individual / family membership.

Fencing 101 – $75
Fencing 102 – $100

We encourages family participation in our classes and open practice. Family Membership entitles two or more family members to join for one flat monthly fee. Membership (Individual or Family) Privilege: Any member in good standing is authorized to share DHFC equipment in training practice or amateur competition that is sanctioned by the USFA or USFA Virginia Division. Additionally, participation in club activities/social functions and training meetings is authorized and encouraged.

Lessons

Intro to Fencing 101
The intro class is intended for non-experienced fencers age 8 or older. They meet one hour each week for 4 consecutive weeks. Focus is on the fundamentals of footwork and fencing. At the completion of the program, individuals can register for the beginner’s class.
Intro to Fencing 102
This is the 2nd 4 week class in our series to rapidly advance beginners into fencing. It builds on the skills gained in the Intro class. At the completion of this class the fencer is qualified to participate in open or club fencing events at Dark Horse.
Youth Programs
Youth are 8-14 year old fencers that have completed both Intro to Fencing classes, or have learned the basics of fencing in another program. Youth teams practice weekly, and focus on building their core fencing skills and competing, both within the club and at regional tournaments. Participation in any youth program is $10 per month per individual
Youth ages 6-9 practice with Coach Bruce on Monday evenings from 7-8:15 PM.
The 10-14 year olds can practice under coach supervision on either Monday or Wednesday evening from 7-8:30. More experienced 13 and 14 year olds may be moved to the senior group at the coaches discretion.
Seniors
Seniors are teenage and older fencers (13+) that have completed the Beginners classes, or have graduated from the youth age group. Seniors meet weekly and focus on building their competitive skills in preparation for the various tournaments offered throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. Dark Horse seniors regularly place well in both regional and national competitions. The seniors meet weekly (currently Monday) year round for coach supervised drills and bouting.
Continuing Group Lessons
Professional fencing coach Greg Kaidanov leads an intense one hour foil / saber session every Tuesday at 8 PM. The cost is $45 monthly for club members.
Private Lessons
Coach Greg is also available by appointment on Tuesday evenings for private lessons in foil, epee, or saber.
